Fukuoka and Kurume

This past weekend we have been on Kyushu hanging out in Fukuoka and Kurume. Fukuoka is the largest city on Kyushu. Kurume is about 30km outside of Fukuoka, and is actually considered the ‘country side’. It doesn’t seem like the country side, but come to think of it, I have seen quite a few plots of land for rice et al.One thing that I am the most surprised about here is the roads, and where you walk. The roads here are very narrow. Most of the roads look like they are comfortable for a single car and that’s it. On top of that, there is no real sidewalk, thus if you are walking or riding your bike, you are kinda in the street, and it can almost make your heart skip a beat if you aren’t paying attention.A funny thing happened on Saturday night. We were at Nixon having a beer, and Chris and I were sitting there talking. Out of nowhere, this Japanese guy that was a few tables comes over to me. He leans on me, and asks me what I am drinking, I said a beer, but I’ve already had two. He walks to the counter, and orders 2 beers, and comes back and gives them to us, then goes to go sit down at his table with his friends. When you go drinking in Japan, always go with people who don’t drink. Why might you ask, you would be the only one drinking. In Japan though, the ticket is always a group ticket. So if you order a beer, everybody pays for it. Thus, could, in theory, drink all you want for ¥100 - ¥200. (1 - 2 USD).
Train
The toilet at the yakitori place.
The best Ramen in Kurume…at 3 in the morning.
Where we got the Ramen.
Walking to 一番街 (ichiban gai) mall in Kurume.
At Nixon having some food and a beer.
Ai and Kanako at Laugh-go-Laugh. The laugh-go-laugh was pretty interesting. The whole place had a south-western feel to it, with american flags et al everywhere. Oddly enough, they only sold European beers…
